COACH’S COMMENTS
“… Jake Derifield and Will Lafferty were both studs on the mound tonight. Derifield went seven innings of impeccable pitching that we have had this season by far. And then Will came in and filled up the strike zone. He did the same thing Monday night and we pulled him against Boyd Co. early for this game right here. Tough break in the seventh inning which allowed them to tie it and I told them when things go bad they really go bad. Honestly now that we ended up winning I’m glad that we went through that adversity. Hopefully these types of wins will build some mental strength which is what we are lacking. We have a lot of guys with experience but they are doing things that they have never been asked to do. And then we got a bunch of guys that have no experience. It’s going to take us a while to get it right.”
“… Prestonsburg the last few years have been right there with us. They only difference was that we have a had shut down guys on the mound. And they couldn’t get it going. Defense and pitching has been right there with us and it’s not a shock to me at all. They were hungry on Wednesday and were ready to play and our guys weren’t and it showed so give them all of the credit. Our margin of error is not very big right now so hats off to them. I thought tonight we were ready to play for the most part.”
“… This year more then any we will have 24 or 25 guys going down and it’s a trip to get us right. We will play nine games in four days between the two levels. It’s always a baseball trip but this is a get right trip. Not sure what our record will be when we get back because it really have no idea what kind of competition we will be playing. We go play excellent and not win a game. We have to figure some things out, weather looks great and we are excited.”
