LOUISA, Ky. — In county judge’s office news some citizens from the Martha, Ky. area are upset over the condition of their roads and the county’s lack of support. They say in a letter to LC EMS director Travis Hughes that emergency vehicles cannot reach their homes if needed.

“… This is our road on Pigeon Roost in Martha, can’t get the county to work on it have called 3 times to try and get it fixed was told they was only working where the bus runs only but there is 5 kids on up from this that go to school and we are having to park our vehicles on the other side and walk home. If there was to be an emergency there is no way for the emergency personnel to get across @Travis Hughes

“…This is Amos rd here in Martha!
We’ve lived on this road for nearly a year now and we’ve called several times asking the county to come fix this mess.
From the very first week of moving in we’ve been asking for help… and this is what we get!?
Like seriously what an absolute joke!
If you drive a smaller sedan then you can kiss driving down this road goodbye, lol.
Lawrence Judge’s office responds.
We received the following message from deputy judge/executive Vince Doty concerning the road problems.
“…Judge Carter and the Lawrence County road department have been working diligently since the first snow storm in January. It has been a combination of snow, ice and flooding that is taking a toll on almost all county roads. The county has been working on these roads and numerous amounts of culverts. We are trying to make sure that all bus routes are drivable.
“…There is still one road on Ahhopper Rd we are currently installing a 10 foot culvert in order for the people living on the other side to be able to get out. Once we get through this weather pattern of snow and flooding we can start to concentrate on fixing these roads back to where they were but until then it is hard to re gravel or patch these roads only to have them washed away the next week from more flooding. We know this is a inconvenience to our citizens but we ask for their patience while we deal with this weather.”

COUNTY JUDGE’S ASSISTANT MOVES TO COUNTY ATTORNEY’S OFFICE

Shawna Marcum
LOUISA, Ky. — One of County judge/executive’s key staff members since he retook office five plus years ago has left the office and joined County Attorney Johnny Osborne’s staff as a paralegal.
Shawna Marcum is leaving the judge’s office after serving under Carter the past few years. She sent a message concerning the change today.
“I wanted to inform you about my recent transition. I have moved to a vacant position in the County Attorney’s office,” she said in a message.
Deputy judge/executive Vince Doty said the move was to help out Osborne.
“…Johnny Osborne has been in great need of someone to work in his office since October. He was looking for someone with experience working in a law office. Shawna was a good candidate since she has previously worked in a law office. Judge Carter and myself informed Shawna about the position and informed her the job was also was going to be more money than she was making in our office. She spoke with Mr. Osborne and talked it over with her family and accepted the job. We will miss her but this was a good opportunity for her.”
Ms. Marcum said she sent notice to several contacts to advise them of the change.
“I have been reaching out to all my former contacts to advise that I am no longer the contact person for that (judge’s) office to avoid delayed responses or delays in receiving information,” she said.
