Nearly 500 Organizations, Consumers, and Advocates Join Kentucky Voices for Health’s Call to Stop Congressional Cuts to Medicaid

Hundreds of Kentuckians Urge Congressional Delegation to Protect Medicaid from Largest-Ever Funding Cut

A coalition of healthcare providers, advocacy groups, and community organizations has sent a sign-on letter to Kentucky’s Congressional Delegation urging them to reject proposed budget cuts to Medicaid. The letter, signed by 100 KY organizations and hundreds of impact individuals from across the state, emphasizes the devastating impact such cuts would have on Kentucky’s most vulnerable residents, including children, seniors, and individuals with disabilities.

“Medicaid is a lifeline for nearly 1 in 3 Kentuckians, ensuring access to essential healthcare services,” said Emily Beauregard, Executive Director of Kentucky Voices for Health. “Any reduction in funding threatens not only the health and well-being of our communities but also the stability of rural hospitals, long-term care facilities, and frontline healthcare providers.”

The letter urges lawmakers to oppose any efforts that would reduce eligibility, restrict benefits, or impose financial barriers that limit care access—including block grants, per capita caps, work requirements and other proposals that would drastically cut funding and services. As Congress rushes to get these cuts through by Memorial Day, GOP House leadership has asked the Energy and Commerce to delay its reconciliation markups until the week of May 12. As the debate intensifies, it’s a sign that mobilization like ours to highlight the potential harm these cuts could inflict is working.

The stories shared by constituents highlight Medicaid’s critical role in supporting maternal health, mental health services, and substance use treatment—areas where Kentucky faces significant public health challenges. You can read through the comments shared by county. Should you wish to get in touch with any of the individuals who shared their story, get in touch with us and we can try to help arrange it.
