Prestonsburg, Ky – Dr. Denise King will become Big Sandy Community & Technical College’s provost/CAO on January 6, 2020. Dr. King is currently vice-president for Academic Affairs at Cleveland State Community College in Chattanooga, TN. She is responsible for the administration, policies, integrity, budget and personnel of all instructional and workforce development programs and support services. She is also the primary liaison between faculty and administration.
She also successfully led the implementation of Guided Pathways reform efforts, including a move to mandatory advising and reorganization of programs into career communities. Through her work, Dr. King has led a 41% increase in the overall graduation rate of her current college. With extensive experience with capital campaigns, structured pathways and workforce development, her external service includes the AACC Commission on Structured Pathways, AACC Commission on Global Education and the TN eCampus Online Degree Program Oversight Committee.
She was the 2019 recipient of the inaugural College of the Year awarded by Tennessee Board of Regents for outstanding student achievement, overcoming obstacles and program expansion. Dr. King has led her current college to become ranked number one of forty community and technical colleges in Tennessee. She holds a Ph.D. in Drama and Humanities from Stanford University.
