Louisa, Ky. — Tonight’s football game between Lawrence Co. ( 4-0 ) and East Carter ( 3-2 ) at Luke Varney Jr. Memorial Stadium has been canceled because of COVID.
#2 Kaden Gillispie picks up a turnover against Magoffin Co. Last week.
This matchup was going to be a dandy and probably the best team on the Bulldogs schedule so far. The Lazer is awaiting an official statement on the cancellation from Supt. Dr. Rob Fletcher. The decision was made at 1:30 this afternoon.
Fletcher statement
“We would like to thank Mr. Blake Preece and everyone involved in planning the celebration of former players and coaches and their contributions to the Lawrence County football program. We were looking forward to honoring individuals who helped build Bulldog Nation. Unfortunately, we had to cancel the game due to the quarantine process.
So far, our football, volleyball, cheerleading, and boys’ soccer programs have lost games due to COVID-19, and we have been blessed that our students have not had severe symptoms with COVID at this time. To be clear, we have had a small number of actual positive cases within our sports programs to date, but the quarantine (contact tracing) process often includes enough students that we must cancel games. Lord willing, we can get back to some “3rd Down Thunder” next week.”
All In,
Robbie L. Fletcher, EdD
You seemed really invested to have backed out the last minute. Just take the L bulldogs. Ive seen teams play with a empty stadium thats why I think it gives reason to hype your appreciation for a not so conclusive retreat.
Here comes the Septemberfest covid surge…
Not really.
