Troopers with Kentucky State Police identified the man who was shot in an incident in Floyd County Friday afternoon.

Troopers received a call about the incident at approximately 2:57 p.m. on Friday, April 25 in the Auxier community.

Upon investigation, troopers said Steven Adkins, 48, of Prestonsburg, suffered a deadly gunshot wound during a physical altercation with Larry Johnson, 67, of Auxier.

Adkins was pronounced dead after he was taken to Highlands ARH Regional Medical Center.

Troopers say Johnson fled the scene, abandoned his car, and went into a wooded area near Jane Brown Branch. He is now wanted on a warrant for murder.

According to KSP, he was last seen wearing a blue, flannel shirt and blue jeans.

Anyone who sees Johnson or has knowledge of his whereabouts can contact Post 9 at (606)433-7711.
