PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Johnson County woman whose family had reported her as missing has been found dead following a single-vehicle crash.

Vanessa Crum, 52, of Van Lear, had left for work at Pikeville Medical Center early Sunday morning, but never arrived.

Police were able to ping her cell phone to get an approximate location in Pikeville, and Pikeville Police discovered her car in the river. Police say she was driving along U.S. 23 when her car left the roadway, went over an embankment and came to a rest submerged in the Big Sandy River. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ms. Crum was a native of Martin County and an SCHS graduate.
