“…Mayor Harold Slone comments:
LOUISA, KY – On Tuesday June 6th, 2017, the Governor’s office announced that the City of Louisa will be awarded $312,200 of federal funds to use towards the Rediscover Louisa – Riverwalk project. A portion of the project will be matched with in-kind and cash by the state and local government.
This is very exciting news for our town, the Riverwalk project is something we began working on in the first few months of my administration. We always knew this would be a big adventure with many important steps in the process, this is another big step towards our goal , and I thank everyone involved in the process.
The City has been doing some of the smaller phases of the project each summer like renovations to existing Lockview Park and City Pool as well as improving access to the river. An observation deck in the park, overlooking the locks, is slated to be built this summer, funded by a Flex E Grant from Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC).
Today’s grant announcement will now allow the Riverwalk project to move forward with the next steps, which include securing right of way easements, engineering and eventually construction.
Many people in the area believe this will be a great addition to the community and provide a space for visitors and residents alike to enjoy. Future phases include plans for more recreation activities on the river including a potential Zip-line going from one side of the river to the other, fishing piers, a splash park and a riverfront amphitheater.”
