Port Gibson, Mississippi — For twenty years Louisa First Baptist Church has went on a summer youth mission trip and this year was no different as 63 individuals made the 14 hour trip south to spread the gospel and do Gods work.
The group left around 6:00 am Saturday June 24th and arrived Saturday night to settle in at Joel’s place, a building set up to host the group for the next five days.
Each night the group would have individual devotions with all 63 participants getting up in front of the room.
On Sunday morning the group went to church at New Fellowship Christian in Port Gibson and then went canvassing and handing out flyers for vacation bible school that afternoon around Port Gibson.
On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday they left Joel’s place bright and early for various work projects around Vicksburg and Port Gibson. They broke up into smaller groups and mowed, weed eating, picked up trash, built a ramp, replaced rotted floors and ramps, put in fans, replaced a sink, put down counter top, drywall and painted. Around 4:00 each evening the group would make their way to New Fellowship Christian Church for a couple of hours for Vacation Bible school. On Monday night they had 12 kids ranging from 5-18 years old and the crowds grew each night and on Wednesday the last evening they had 33 kids who were very receptive and energetic all three days.
On Thursday from 10-12 it was time for the Block party at Port Gibson City Park were around 50 showed up for music, basketball, dancing, hot dogs and Fellowship one last time with our new friends from Mississippi and then the group said their goodbyes and it was off to Atlanta Georgia for the next part of the trip.
The group made it to Atlanta Thursday night to get ready for their well earned Fun Day at Six Flags over Georgia. But Mother Nature had other ideas so the group spent the day at the Aquarium, Coke of Atlanta and the young men made a trip to Cabelas.
On Saturday morning the group made its way to the Atlanta Baptist City Mission for three hours of work before headed back to Kentucky.

YOUTH MINISTER’S COMMENT
“…Every year at this time FBC Youth Group heads out to a different location for our summer mission trip. And each trip is different from the others, standing out in their own way. Over the years our groups have been to Florida, Detroit, Fort Wayne Indiana, Syracuse New York, and New Hampshire just to name a few. This year’s mission was a return trip to Port Gibson Mississippi. We took a group of 63 folks and had a great week of working on and in people’s homes while partnering with “Christian Volunteer Service” which is an outreach of New Christian Fellowship Church in Port Gibson. And then each evening hosting vacation bible school for kids from 5-18 years of age. Finally, on our way back home we stopped in Atlanta Georgia for our “fun” day for our youth. We finished the week working for 3 hrs at the Atlanta City Baptist Rescue Mission then headed home. A great time of serving God by serving others!!
