BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Mission to Save Homeless Pets Across America Continues with Lawrence County Humane Society
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. October 2, 2018 — In efforts to reduce the number of homeless pets in America, BISSELL Pet Foundation (BPF) will host its second, national-scale Empty the Shelters event this month. BPF will cover all adoption fees at 100+ shelters and rescue organizations in 14 states, including Kentucky.
The last national-scale ETS saved 3,135 pet lives in less than 24 hours and 13,624 pet lives since the program’s inception in 2016.
On October 13, Lawrence County Humane Society will participate in Empty the Shelters from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at OPEN ARMS Animal Shelter (820 Isaac Park Rd, Louisa, KY 41230).
“Shelters across the country are over capacity with so many wonderful pets who deserve a second chance,” said Cathy Bissell, founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “Getting animals out of shelters and into loving homes is critical. Empty the Shelters does just that by encouraging people to choose adoption first.”
BPF understands the importance of making sure pets are going to a good home, which is why participating shelters must follow the same protocol to screen adopters as they would in any other situation.
To participate in this FREE pet adoption day, adopters are encouraged to submit adoption applications for pre-approval by Lawrence County Humane Society. Visit OPEN ARMS Animal Shelter between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday-Friday or visit Tri-County Animal Clinic to pick up the adoption application before October 13. This location will focus on the adoption of cats only for this day. Adopters must provide proof of home ownership or landlord consent to have a pet. Adopters must also bring a pet carrier to transport their new furry friend home safely on the day of ETS. Individuals interested in adopting a dog are encouraged to contact Ashland Animal Rescue Fund (AARF) or Sierra’s Haven For New And Used Pets who will be participating at the PetSmart store in Ashland, KY from 10am-4pm.
All adoptable pets available during Empty the Shelters will be spayed/neutered in order to prevent unwanted litters and reduce the risk of more pets ending up in shelters. Plus, BPF will thank families for choosing adoption by providing wellness information and other valuable materials for new pet owners, while supplies last.
