How will Carter administration spend the nearly $3 million?

LOUISA, Ky. — The Lawrence BOE will pay county $3M for the LC Community Center according to information from Supt. Katie Webb. In answer to a written question concerning the purchase price of the property, Ms. Webb sent the following reply:
“… Mr. Grayson,
I’m happy to share where we are in the process.
Per state guidelines, a school district cannot pay more than the official appraised value for a property. This specific amount was determined by a state-approved appraiser in direct collaboration with the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) School Facilities Office. The Board of Education and the Fiscal Court have agreed on the appraised value of $2,944,000 as the purchase price.
We are currently completing the final steps required by the KDE Facilities Office for sign-off.
We are excited about what this acquisition means for the future for the kids of Louisa West.”
The BOE has plans to convert the community center into a early childhood facility with the large meeting room left as is and groups and organizations will continue to be available. The Lazer would like to see the plans posted for the public.
County judge Phil Carter has not answered the same question as to the price and now he is faced with telling the public what the county’s plans are for spending the nearly $3 million.

Why not just donate the building to the school and give the old school to the county after all they are all paid for by the taxpayers why burden them with another $3 million.

that’s a great idea, but not realistic. I’m sure there are more improvements to the soccer field or the fairground that will be done. Definitely won’t go towards the county roads.

Better ear mark a lot of it to be set aside for trying to keep that fairground from ending up down town. Such a shame it was built in such a poorly thought out place. This will require putting erosion control in place for the rest of time. I can now see my parents graves from the road and non stops slips will keep happening 😢

This should definitely have a large sum set aside for erosion control for the poorly thought out location of the fairgrounds. This will be an ongoing cost for the future.

The BOE finds money for what they want to find money for. How about raises for teachers? Teachers need a cost of living raise. The price of everything is going up, but our salaries aren’t budging. Most of us work 2nd jobs just to make it. It’s ridiculous. We retire when we can because we need to get another full time job because we don’t make enough.

Didn’t TACO promised us he was going to lower prices on day 1 ?
Anyone who worked during the Carter and Reagan years will tell you prices don’t go done all you can hope for is the wages catch up.

To: I Said What I Said,

I am betting that you are not a teacher, because educated teachers in our county know how important a new elementary school is to our children and we could never get the nickel tax to pass because of clueless people such as yourself!
I am a teacher and I know that every one of us would love to have a raise but if you don’t understand the importance of this new building then you are definitely not a teacher or you have been hiding under a rock or maybe you are just a self centered person who isn’t thinking about our future in Lawrence County!

To the future school taxes are too Damn High. You will get a good return on your investment because the taxpayers will now have to pay for your retirement and your medical benefits. Why should the taxpayers that have already voted not once but twice against your nickel tax that you are pushing for but now they are going to make us pay for a building.

im all for furthering the education of lawrence co. i am just concerned about the fact that tax payer revenue was used to build it and now they are paying for it again through school tax and now lawrence co has a free ticket to 3m dollars with noones opinions on how its spent considering it is revenue from the sale of a taxpayer funded and constructed building. i hope they get audited in a few years cause i have a feeling lc wont see much from this at all by the time the money is spent . . they certainly dont use it for the roads iv had 2 flats from potholes.
