Eagle Ridge Golf League News
Tuesday Night was a beautiful day to play
It appears we have set a record. For the first time since its inception, the league has played three consecutive weeks in April without being rained out at least once. The weather has been fantastic each league day. It will be great if this holds out.
And, I did learn something else important. Troy Hughes no longer exists; if you see him call him Laine. Journalists (if that is what I am) should always get their facts correct. It appears that I have made a mistake in my first “journalistic” position. Please forgive me and remember that Troy, from this day forward, is wiped from the pages of the Lazer.
After last week’s article, where I talked about how great it was to see Eddie Dixon and Tim Hayes in the league, I was paired with them. Davy Fields made up the remainder of our foursome. These three fellows are some of the longest knockers in the league; without a doubt, Davy is consistently the league’s longest driver of the golf ball. Although I am a geezer, I continue to be very competitive, attempting to drive the ball as far as I can. To explain what it was like, on number 14, a par five hole, I hit my drive well. I was playing from the #4 tees, 75 yards nearer the green than Davy, who was playing from the #2 tees. (Davy is the only one in the league who plays from the #2 tees. Everyone else plays the #3 or #4). After he hit his drive, he commented that he didn’t catch the ball very well at all. When we got to where our balls lay, they were side by side. Then Davy looked at Eddie and asked: “Do you think 275 yards will get me to the green?” Eddie agreed, and Davy took out a fairway wood and hit the ball on the fringe, pin high. Back last century, when many of you were not even on this earth, I know of one time I hit the ball that far, and it was with a driver from the tee.
So what can I say about my game? Well, I played the entire round with one ball. None of the other three did. So there!
We had twenty players, which was quite good. There also were several makeup rounds submitted before Tuesday’s tee time. The scores portrayed are without handicap. Calculation of handicaps will occur at the end of four weeks. The league played the back nine. Now for the results.
