A VERY CRAZY BAD NEIGHBOR: GEORGE STANDIFUR, 44, OF ELKHORN CITY, KY. WAS ARRESTED BY STATE POLICE AFTER BREAKING INTO HOME, TRIED TO SHOOT THE RESIDENTS, BEFORE HE WAS SHOT BY THE HOMEOWNER, BEING KICKED-OUT BY THE RESIDENTS, ENDING WITH A STANDOFF WITH COPS.
A Pike County man was arrested by Kentucky State Police as a result of a wild incident in which the suspect broke into a home while armed with a gun, attempted to shoot the residents in the home, which led to the suspect getting himself shot by the homeowner, forced out of the home, and ended up in a standoff with law enforcement before he was finally physically taken into custody.
According to the Kentucky State Police Post 9 in Pikeville, they received a 911 call regarding a shooting in the Elkhorn City community of Pike County on the late night of Monday, June 30, 2025.
KSP troopers responded to West 5th Street, where they discovered a male subject had been shot. The initial investigation revealed George Standifur, 44, Elkhorn City, entered a residence on West 5th Street while armed with a firearm, and made threats toward the homeowner and his family. The homeowner discharged a firearm, striking Standifur.
George Standifur was forced out of the residence and later located by troopers in an alley near the home, while still armed. Troopers engaged in negotiations with George Standifur for several hours before taking him into custody. George Standifur was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
As a result of this investigation, Georgia Standifur is currently charged with:
*ATTEMPED MURDER,
*WANTON ENDANGERMENT-1ST DEGREE-POLICE OFFICER,
*TERRORISTIC THREATENING, 3RD DEGREE,
*RESISTING ARREST,
*DISORDERLY CONDUCT, 2ND DEGREE,
*MENACING,
*ALCOHOL INTOXICATION IN A PUBLIC PLACE (1ST & 2ND OFFENSE).
George Standifur was transported to and lodged in the Pike County Detention Center in Pikeville, where he is being held on a $150,000 full cash bond only. He has his first court arraignment scheduled for on Friday, July 11, at 10:00 A.M., in Pike County District Court.
KSP Post 9 trooper Nick Taylor is leading the investigation and was assisted on scene by KSP Post 9 personnel.
Trooper Taylor, who is also the arresting officer in the case, wrote in his arrest citation that “the subject had the gun and refused to put the weapon down. The subject stated that he was going to kill us multiple times,”
“Troopers said that, after a few hours, the man eventually put the gun down, and troopers rushed him to get the firearm out of his reach, at which point George Standifur reportedly began resisting arrest and “smelled of alcohol.”
After speaking with the family in the home, troopers were told George Standifur lived in a camper next door.
A man in the home claims George Standifur “came into his home uninvited, making threats to kill the family.”
The family told troopers that George Standifur attempted to shoot the man in the head, but the gun did not fire. So, the man was able to get his gun and shoot at Standifur, shooting him in the leg.
George Standifur then tried to shoot his gun at a woman in the home, according to the citation, but it failed to fire again, and they were able to force him out of the home and call 911.
Poor gun control on homeowners part!!!
