DR. LON LAFFERTY FILES AS WRITE-IN CANDIDATE FOR MARTIN COUNTY JUDGE/EXECUTIVE
INEZ — Dr. Lon Lafferty today filed with the Martin County Clerk as a write-in candidate for the Office of Martin County Judge/Executive in the upcoming General Election on November 8th, 2022. Current Judge/Executive Colby Kirk is leaving office and withdrawing his candidacy to take a position as CEO of One East Kentucky on October 28th.
As no Democratic candidate filed for the office, voters must choose only by write-in to elect an individual to be Martin County Judge/Executive for the four-year term beginning January 1, 2023.
Dr. Lafferty, a Republican, previously served as Martin County Judge/Executive from 1999 until 2003. He has spent his career as a family physician serving generations of Martin Countians at his practice, Lafferty Medical Clinic in Inez.
“I love serving Martin Countians as their family doctor, and I had no desire to get back into politics, but I felt a calling to come back and serve and offer some experience and stability to our great county,” said Dr. Lafferty.
“Martin County needs experienced, proven leadership at this moment—someone who is ready to lead on day one and who will stick around to get the job done and move our county forward. I don’t need the job, but I want to do the job because this county needs steady leadership that people can count on,” Lafferty continued.
Lafferty said he would be “campaigning hard” during the next three weeks until the November 8th election.
“Martin County has real needs — our roads, bridges, and infrastructure demand attention, and we must have someone who can go to Frankfort and Washington, DC to get things done for our county — someone who can bring new jobs here. I’m going to campaign hard, and fight hard if elected to make a great county and even better place to live, work, and raise our families,” Lafferty said.
