Details sketchy on fire at Riverside power station on US 23, Photo courtesy of LC Emergency Management
This normally quiet section of Lawrence County with two electricity producing plants less than a mile apart had a fire early this morning that drew fire departments from all over — possibly due to the danger of a much larger fire.
TV stations are reporting the incident including our own WSAZ whose early report is below.
We will come up with more details as they are revealed.
FIRE ON 23 AT RIVERSIDE ELECTRIC
LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) – Multiple fire departments are on scene of a fire at a power station in Lawrence County, Kentucky Friday morning.
Fallsburg Volunteer Fire Department Chief Chris Jobe says the fire is under control at Riverside Generating on U.S. 23 near the flea market.
Crews on scene told WSAZ oil leaked into a turbine causing a fire.
The northbound lane of U.S. 23 is shutdown to traffic.
CSX has also stopped trains in that area.
Officials reported no one was hurt during the fire.
The Big Sandy Volunteer Fire Department, East Fork Fire Department, and Louisa Fire Department all responded to the scene.
In Martin County? Get your facts straight, it’s Lawrence County, Levi’s Lazer!!
Where does it even say Martin County?
Didn’t know Martin county had any power plants at all. According to the fist part of the blog, I gues it does. I’ll have to go check them out!!!!
It’s not SKETCHY. It was an oil fire. Oil leaks cause fires on this type of equipment.
We are waiting on the company to issue an official press release.
