Louisville, Ky. — The Lawrence Co. Wrestling Club finished third in the state youth championship last weekend at the Louisville Expo Center.

Gavin and Elijah Diamond with the third place trophy.

Third place in Division 2 and seventh overall out of three divisions.

Almost 1600 wrestlers from 6u to 14u battled for their chance at a state title.

Eli Block went unbeaten to win a state title.

It was two Lawrence Co. wrestlers out of 64 in the final match in the 8U 63 pound division and Eli Block defeated Cory Keeton for the title

Block went 6-0 and Keeton went 5-1.

Gentry Bowen won the 8U 43 pound division going 4-0 in the 32 man bracket.

Gabriel Hayes was runner-up in the 16 man 14u 136 pound division by going 3-1.

Waylon Raines finished state runner-up out of 32 in the 8u 85 pound division and went 4-1 overall.

Ty Muncy went 7-1 and fineked in third place out of 64 in the 8u 53 pound division.

Jace Napier went 4-2 and finished in fourth place out of 32 in the 14u 114 pound division.

LC Wrestling Club head coach Josh Diamond

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… This year’s tournament was different in year’s past. There use to be multiple brackets in each division, but this year it was 64 man brackets. So these kids really had to work to advance. I couldn’t be more proud of this group. Gentry Bowen became our first back to back state champion for Lawrence County. Eli Block and Cory Keeton came out of opposing ends of their bracket and met in the finals and were the only teammates out of 63 divisions to meet in the finals. This 3rd place trophy was more difficult to achieve than the state title last year.”

“… We competed against the best this state has to offer and for the 2nd year in a row we proved to be there.”
