A Paintsville Herald Staff Report
- Nov 10, 2025

A Paintsville woman who is a speech therapist at a Martin County elementary school was arrested recently after allegedly being found to be intoxicated at the school.
According to an arrest citation written by Martin County Schools Police Officer Nathan Todd, on Nov. 6, he was notified by administration at Eden Elementary in Inez that a staff member was possibly under the influence of alcohol.
According to the citation, the administration advised that Leigh Ann Marquez, a speech therapist at the school, was displaying signs of intoxication, such as having trouble maintaining balance and surring her words.
Officers made contact with Marquez, who told them that she “does have an issue and that her drink of choice is whiskey,” Todd wrote.
Marquez, the citation said, showed signs of intoxication during field sobriety tests and told the officers she had “12 children in her care,” that day.
Marquez was lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center on charges of alcohol intoxication and endangering the welfare of a minor.
Records show she was released on a $500 unsecured bond and was set to be arraigned on Nov. 10.
