Kentucky Power Company, have you lost your damn minds? A 14.9% rate hike for residential customers and 13-15% for businesses? That’s not just a slap in the face…. it’s a full-on gut punch to Eastern Kentucky families and small businesses already drowning in bills! You had the audacity to file this garbage with the Public Service Commission on August 29, and if they greenlight this robbery, we’ll be stuck with it by Spring 2026. Unbelievable.
You claim this is about “rising costs” and “reliable service” spare me the corporate crocodile tears! You’re raking in profits while families in Eastern Kentucky are paying electric bills higher than their freaking mortgages, as Rep. Chris Fugate pointed out. And for what? To “upgrade equipment” and “invest in power plants”? How about investing in not screwing over the people who keep your lights on? Fugate’s got it right: real economic development would be bringing back a coal-fired plant to create jobs and actually lower rates, not jacking them up to line your pockets.
Your so-called “benefits” are a pathetic joke. A new rate structure to “help” high-energy users in winter? A FlexPay program for “control”? That’s just slapping a shiny bow on a pile of crap and calling it a gift. It does nothing for the average household struggling to afford groceries, let alone your inflated bills. You’re treating Eastern Kentuckians like cash cows, not customers.
Rep. Fugate is ready to fight this tooth and nail, and so am I! The PSC better listen up and shut this down. I’m calling on every Kentuckian to show up to those public meetings, raise hell, and tell Kentucky Power and the PSC that we’re done being their ATM. This isn’t just about rates… it’s about respect, fairness, and keeping our communities alive. Kentucky Power, you’re on notice: we’re not taking this lying down! #NoRateHike #KentuckyPowerGreed
