The Louisa Rotary Club welcomed Emergency Management Director Travis Hughes as their guest speaker on Thursday, August 14th.
Hughes brings years of law enforcement experience to his role, having served as a police officer before transitioning to EMS in 2022. His position requires daily coordination with local police, fire departments, ambulance services, the hospital, and schools-relationships he says are vital to ensuring swift and effective responses during emergencies.
He noted that winter is often the most challenging season for his office, particularly when severe weather leads to road closures. In those situations, Hughes emphasized that clear communication is critical to reaching residents in need.
Rotary members expressed appreciation for Hughes’ dedication, recognizing the value of having a leader so committed to the safety and well being of Lawrence County.
