LOUISA, KY — June 10, 2025 — The Millard College celebrated its Commencement Ceremony on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the Millard School Gymnasium, 332 Riverbend Road, Louisa, KY. The event marked a momentous occasion for more than 80 graduates, their families, and the Millard College community, highlighting the power of education and community collaboration.
The ceremony was punctuated by the presentation of three prestigious awards: the Chancellor’s Award, the President’s Award, and the Honorary Alumnus Award. These awards highlighted people and organizations that uplift The Millard College through strategic partnerships and dedicated service.
The Chancellor’s Award was presented to the Dickenson County Industrial Development Authority (DCIDA) for their visionary work in bringing The Millard College and Addiction Recovery Care’s Crisis to Career model to Southwestern Virginia. Their efforts, including the development of Wildwood Recovery Center, set to open in 2026, and plans for a future Wellness Center and job training facility, embody The Millard College’s commitment to fostering recovery, wellness, and workforce development. “We’re deeply grateful to the Dickenson County Industrial Development Authority for their visionary leadership and unwavering partnership in advancing the Crisis to Career model in Southwestern Virginia,” Tim Robinson, Chancellor of The Millard College, shared. “Their commitment will open new pathways for many individuals in recovery and create a blueprint for other communities to follow.” Accepting the award on behalf of DCIDA were Larry Barton, County Administrator for Dickenson County, VA, and Freddie Mullins, Attorney for DCIDA.
The President’s Award, one of the highest honors conferred by the college, was awarded to Lonnie Lawson, CEO of the Center for Rural Development. Mr. Lawson was recognized for his steadfast partnership with The Millard College in creating and supporting second-chance employment training programs for individuals in recovery. His dedication to empowering individuals through educational and workforce initiatives has been instrumental in advancing the College’s mission. “The only way for organizations to succeed these days is to have people and other organizations come alongside them and help,” said Randy Stinson, President of The Millard College. “That’s what the Center for Rural Development, under the leadership of Lonnie, has done. They have made it possible for dozens of students to graduate from The Millard College. We are so thankful for the partnership and his visionary leadership.”
The Commencement Speaker was Sam Howard, owner of Trace Creek Construction. His inspiring address resonated with graduates, urging them to pursue excellence and embrace the opportunities ahead. “We were blessed to have Sam Howard, a visionary entrepreneur, share his inspiring story of healing and determination with our graduates,” said Robinson. “His example is a powerful reminder of what’s possible with faith and dedication.” In recognition of his significant acts of service, Mr. Howard was also named an Honorary Alumnus of The Millard College. Howard’s recovery from Guillain-Barré syndrome, which left him partially paralyzed and required nearly a year of intensive treatment, is a testament to his perseverance and resilience.
