Saturday Scrimmages will boost LadyDawgs, Dawgs for 2016
Louisa, Ky. — The annual Zip Zone Classic will once again be held at Lawrence Co. high school the Saturday after Thanksgiving and the event is loaded once again. Their will be 8 games total with 7 of those being Boys games that will feature some of the best teams in our area and also some of the best teams from around the state of Kentucky.
This Saturday the 19th will be the first scrimmage for both the Dawgs and Lady Dawgs.
The Dawgs will play Knott Co. Central at Johnson Central game time will be 3:30
The Lady Dawgs will also play Knott Co. Central at South Floyd game time will be
11:30 am.
Zip Zone Classic Schedule ( Saturday November 26th at Lawrence Co. High School.
The event will kickoff at 10:30 am with the only girls game of the day between 15th region rivals Lawrence Co. ( 13-18 ) coached by Melinda Feltner and Sheldon Clark ( 9-18 ) coached by Tim Rice. The Lady Dawgs will be led by sophomores Lexie Ratliff 9 ppg Kelly Davis 4 ppg Kylie Maynard 4 ppg and Kassidy Cavins 6 ppg. The Lady Cardinals will be spearheaded by do it all senior Hope Lafferty 26 ppg.
The boys action will kickoff at 11:55 am with former Sheldon Clark head coach Frankie Smith bringing his talented Christian Co. ( 29-3 ) squad from the 2nd region who will be led by Coastal Carolina verbal commit Jaylen Sebree 12 ppg to take on 11th region foe Lexington Catholic ( 14-13 ) coached by Brandon Salsman and led by Senior Luke Johnson 23 ppg.
At 1:20 it will be North Laurel ( 24-6 ) from the 13th region coached by Brad Sizemore and led by Peyton Broughon 23 ppg battling with Louisville Ballard ( 22-11 ) out of the 7th region coached by Chris Renner and led by Clivonte Patterson 15 ppg both teams will be in the mix for a State Tournament trip.
At 2:45 Louisville Trinity ( 29-7 ) coached by Mike Szabo out of the 7th region led by Jacob King 14 ppg will take on Scott Co. ( 29-6 ) from the 11th region coached by Billy Hicks and led by Micheal Moreno 15 ppg which could be a preview of respective Region favorites.
At 4:10 it will be 15th Region power Johnson Central ( 20-13 ) coached by Tommy McKenzie who will be looking to get back to the state tourney after missing last year. Seniors Mason Blair 20 ppg and Cole Crace 14 ppg will lead the Eagles vs former Lawrence Co. head man Josh Cook and his Clark Co. Cardinals ( 15-15 ) who are out of the10th region and led by Ryan Cooper 11 ppg.
At 5:35 Sheldon Clark ( 9-22 ) out of the 15th region will clash with 16th Region favorite Elliott Co. ( 22-8 ). The Cards, coached by Jason James were a little bit down last season but will get a big boost from senior transfers (back home) Dylan James from Mercer Co. 16 ppg and Shawn Moore from Lawrence Co. 1 ppg plus returning starter Ethan Osborne 7 ppg. The Lions coached by Greg Adkins are coming off a state tourney trip and are lead by Senior Chase Porter 15 ppg and Sophomore Korbin Spencer 17 ppg.
At 7:00 in the prime time game of the day it will be a matchup of prep schools Huntington Prep from West Virginia with Florida signee Chase Johnson and Highly touted Junior Keldon Johnson will take on Virginia Episcopal.
In the nightcap at 8:25 it will be host and defending 15th region champion Lawrence County (29-5 ) coached by Travis York and led by Salem International verbal commit Timmy Dalton 19 ppg, Seniors Cameron Maynard and Jordan Johnson, Juniors Alex Gilliam and Trey Dotson and 8th Grader Jared Wellman taking on 15th region foe Shelby Valley ( 17-11 ) coached by Jim Hicks and led by Senior Lamont Wright 17 ppg.
