Rep. Bill Wesley Should be Applauded for Confronting Man Using Women’s Bathroom at KY Capitol

Frankfort, KY – After a male wearing a highly inappropriate dress attempted to use the women’s restroom at the Kentucky Capitol last week, The Family Foundation is calling upon Governor Andy Beshear to take appropriate and swift action to require individuals visiting the Capitol, or any other state facility under his control, to use restrooms which correspond to their biological sex. On March 27, at an LGBTQ “trans joy” rally protesting the General Assembly’s veto override of HB 495, a featured speaker at the rally who is a man claiming to be a woman attempted to use one of the women’s restrooms at the Capitol frightening multiple women and young girls.

We are grateful that State Rep. Bill Wesley (R- Ravenna) courageously took action to confront the man along with Kentucky State Police to ensure that women and young girls could use the facility safely. The Family Foundation’s executive director David Walls discussed the appalling incident with Rep. Wesley on the final day of the 2025 Kentucky General Assembly last week. You can watch the video here.

Media reports have stated that the man in the dress has vowed to continue to enter the women’s restrooms at the Capitol anytime he wants to do so, and leading LGBTQ advocates in Kentucky are claiming a right to enter any bathroom they choose. The Family Foundation is calling on concerned Kentuckians to contact Gov. Beshear to urge him to keep men out of women’s restroom in all government facilities across the Commonwealth.

Statement from David Walls, executive director of The Family Foundation:

“Enough is enough. Governor Andy Beshear has a duty to act to protect the privacy, safety, and dignity of the women and girls of this Commonwealth. It is not possible for a man to become a woman, and men should not be using women’s facilities, especially restrooms. With the presence of countless school groups on Capitol grounds—many of which were young elementary-aged children—it should be clear to anyone that this man’s presence in the women’s restroom was not only an issue of decency but an issue of safety.

“We applaud Rep. Wesley’s actions and look forward to working with him to support legislation in the next legislative session to prevent these situations from happening again in our Commonwealth. But until the next session in 2026, Gov. Beshear has the legal authority to prevent this bathroom insanity from happening. If the Governor is as concerned about the safety and wellbeing of Kentucky’s children as he claims, Kentuckians should not have to wait another second for this nonsense to end. He must no longer hide behind empty platitudes about loving your neighbor on this issue. Loving your neighbor does not mean exposing young girls visiting the Capitol on a school field trip to a grown man wearing a see-through dress in the women’s restroom,” Walls concluded.
