It’s a real ROADeo!
State highway equipment operators from Letcher, Pike, Knott, Floyd, Martin, Johnson, and Lawrence counties met for the annual Skills competition driving snow plows and low boy trucks through obstacle courses and maneuvering backhoe scoops to take golf balls out of a sandbox and onto a highway cone.
The event took place Friday, June 9, 2017 from 9 a.m. until about 3:30 p.m. at Archer Park, in Prestonsburg, Floyd County
Interviews were available with Mary Westfall-Holbrook, Chief District Engineer; Jimmy Queen, Roadeo coordinator and D12 Work Zone Safety Coordinator; Paxton Weddington and Darold Slone, D12 Project Delivery and Preservation Branch Managers, various maintenance specialists who compete, and others who judge the competitions, including employees from design, permits, traffic operations, equipment maintenance, and administrative offices.
