MARTIN COUNTY, KENTUCKY MAN INDICTED IN 2025 FEDERAL DRUG CASE WANTS TO CHANGE PLEA

JANUARY 8, 2026 – written by WADE QUEEN

.

A MR. MARTIN COUNTY METH DEALER: CODY GENE SPEARS, 30, OF LOVELY, KENTUCKY; WAS ARRESTED AFTER BEING INDICTED BY A FEDERAL GRAND JURY IN SEPTEMBER 2025.

A Martin County, Kentucky man now appears ready to enter a guilty plea in his federal drug case.

Cody Gene Spears, 30, of Lovely, KY., was arrested back on September, 26, 2025 by the officer Elkins U.S. Marshals Service-Eastern KY., after being indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts of distributing more than 50 grams of meth. The indictment accuses Spears of selling the drug on two occasions in September 2025.

Cody Spears was originally scheduled to go to trial in November 2025, but his attorney asked for a continuance in order to negotiate a resolution to the case. Those negotiations appear to have borne fruit, as his attorney asked the U.S. District Court in Ashland, KY. on Thursday morning to set an arraignment hearing in order for him to change his plea.

No ruling by the federal judge in the case has yet been made on the request.
