Louisa, Ky. — After a final four appearance in the state softball tournament the Lawrence County Bulldogs are garnering a bunch of recognition this offseason.
Coach of the year Sam Sparks with Jada Patton, Taylor Blevins and Emalynn Kitts
Bulldog first year Head Coach Sam Sparks was named the Ky Prep 15th Region Coach of the Year after guiding his team to a 26-7 record a 58th District and 15th Region title, along with a semifinal appearance in the state tournament before falling to eventual state champion Assumption.
Lawrence County standout Bree Jones was named Ky Prep 15th Region player of the year and made the Class 2A First team All-State voted on by the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association.
Jones hit leadoff for a potent Bulldog offense and ended her career with 283 career hits the most in school history. During her senior season Jones had a .424 batting average, was a perfect 22-22 stealing bases, had 42 hits and scored 47 runs from her leadoff spot.
Senior to be Taylor Blevins along with Sophomores to be Emalynn Kitts and Jada Patton were named to the Daily Independent first team.
This past season Blevins went 22-5 with a 2.50 era, 154 innings, 140 strikeouts, walked 25 and allowed 55 earned runs. She has over 80 wins in her illustrious career.
Kitts was the team leader in batting average at .463 hits with 50, doubles with 16, second in runs scored with 43, home runs with 5 and runs batted in with 44, she also went 18-20 in the stolen base department.
Patton was the team leader in home runs with 6, runs batted in with 47, had 46 hits, 14 doubles, scored 41 runs, was second on the team with a .430 batting average and was 19 of 20 on stolen bases.
