Softball Dawgs advance to Class 2A Section Tournament with mercy rule victory over Pike Co. Central

Prestonsburg, Ky. — Lawrence County sophomore Lexi Crum hit a walk-off grand slam to mercy Pike Co. Central 16-3 in the semifinals of the Class 2A Section 8 tournament on Tuesday at Stonecrest Sportspark.

The Hawks scored three unearned runs in the top of the first inning on two hits and two Bulldog errors but never got another base runner as Taylor Blevins settled down and retired the next fourteen batters to get the win. 

Lawrence Co. ( 8-2 ) scored two runs in the bottom of the first and then broke it open with nine runs in third inning before ending the game in the bottom of the fifth on the Lexi Crum grand slam. 

Lexi Crum is all smiles after hitting a walk-off Grand Slam against Pike Co. Central Tuesday. 

Crum had two hits, five runs batted in and scored twice, Jada Patton had three hits including a double, one RBI and scored three runs, Emalynn Kitts had two hits including a double, one RBI and scored a run, Gracie Woods had two hits and scored two runs, Ella Smith had two hits, two RBI’s and scored a run, Addalyn Woods singled, drove in two runs and scored three runs, Leah Blackburn singled and knocked in one run,

Aleaha Gillispie had one hit, Baleigh Blackburn scored two runs and Brinley Baisden one run. 

Blevins went five innings, allowed two hits, no earned runs, struck out nine Hawks and had three hits and two runs batted in. 

The Bulldogs will play Perry Co. Central ( 8-6 ) for the Class 2A Section 8 championship on Thursday at 6:00 after the Commodores beat Johnson Central 7-3 in the second semifinal on Tuesday.

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… Once we got going we put the bat on the ball and put some pressure on on them, I thought after the first inning Taylor Blevins never allowed another base runner. The first inning was whatever you want to call it but it was embarrassing but we got out of it and did what we needed to do and that was advance to the championship game.”

“… Our Junior class has been steady throughout their careers and really add different things to our team. I look for all three of them to contribute this season.”
