LC falls to Simon Kenton in Elite 8, 4-0
Lexington, Ky. — On a stunningly beautiful Saturday afternoon at Lafayette High School the Lawrence Co. Soccer team was right where they wanted to be playing in the KHSSA State soccer tournament. The Dawgs were ready but Simon Kenton ( 21-3-1 ) and ranked in the top five in the state, took it right at Lawrence Co. ( 18-3-2 ) and came away with a 4-0 victory and will advance to the Final Four on Wednesday.
Simon Kenton took a 1-0 lead when LC failed to clear the ball from in front of the net when they had a couple of chances with 32 minutes to go in the first half.
Lawrence Co. couldn’t get much going on offense and the Lady Pioneers took advantage with a goal late in the first half much to the displeasure of LC head man Kyle Snaitecki who wanted an offsides call and even drew a card for protesting. The Bulldogs faced a 2-0 deficit at Half.
In the second half Lawrence Co. never quit playing and the coaches never quit coaching it just wasn’t the SoccerDawgs’ day. Simon Kenton netted two goals in the second half to set the final score of 4-0.
Saturday’s loss will not diminish what the SoccerDawgs accomplished in 2016.
District and Region Champs, First round State Tournament victory in front of a monster crowd, and another Elite Eight appearance were the Bulldog Nation was out in full force on Saturday in Lexington.
A lot of Black and Red showed up yesterday for the SoccerDawgs Elite Eight game in Lexington.
The three Lawrence Co. seniors will be missed Andrea Salyers, Raegan Crum and Makenzie Frazier. But the SoccerDawgs return a ton of talent and it would not be a shock to see them right back in the state tourney next year.
