Mark,
My name is Debbie L. Trusty and I am the Education & Treatment Director for Operation UNITE. We are bringing an event to Lawrence County on Thursday, June 8th called “Shoot Hoops, Not Drugs.” The event location will be Louisa High School Gym and the time is THURSDAY JUNE 8, 4:00pm – 7:00pm.
Now in its 12th summer, Shoot Hoops camps provide school-age youth an opportunity to interact with positive role models, receive positive life-skill and self-esteem messages that emphasize the importance for them to stay drug-free, all while receiving basic basketball skills instruction. All participants in the UNITE-sponsored camps received a specially designed event T-shirt, regulation autographed Shoot Hoops Not Drugs basketball, and are entered into a drawing for two portable basketball goals that are given away to participants at each camp location. (Must be present to win.) Since its inception in 2006, there have been 67 Shoot Hoops Not Drugs Camps drawing 8,860 youth participants from 58 Kentucky counties, 20 other states, and two other countries.
As part of each camp, parents and guardians are invited to attend a brief education program on current drug trends, how to talk with your children about drugs and signs, symptoms and dangers of drugs. Since inception 1,72 adults have attended these awareness sessions.
Every child that attends gets an event t-shirt, basketball and we feed them. At the conclusion of the event we have a drawing for two portable basketball goals with stands that two lucky children will take home.
I am hoping that you will help us advertise the event by placing the attached flyer in the Levisa Laser. I will be sending a press release about the event as we get a little closer.
Thank you in advance for helping us!
