Shirley Mae Sammons Bentley, 92 of Louisa, Ky went home to be with the Lord on August 2nd, 2026.
Born on March 7th, 1934. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Maudie Sipe and Corbett Sipe. Her siblings Bernice Stump, Corbett Sipe Jr., Kenneth Sipe, Mary Sipe, Jeanie Sipe, Carolyn Sipe, David Leroy Sipe, Jerry Sipe and Johnny Sipe, Her grandson James Adam Sammons. Her husband and son’s father James F. Sammons.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Homer Bentley. Her son, Dave (Vickie) Sammons. Her step-sons, Greg (Connie) Bentley and Dave Bentley. Her grandchildren, David (Holly) Sammons II, Megan (Craig) Meade, and Riley Sammons. Her great-grandchildren David Sammons lll, and Jenna Sammons.
Shirley found her greatest joy in spending time with her family and her church family at Cherryville Missionary Baptist Church. She especially loved singing in church, where her beautiful voice was a blessing to so many. Her unwavering faith in the Lord was evident in the way she lived her life and in the kindness she showed to everyone she met. Shirley was well known for her delicious home cooking, which was a cherished part of countless Cherryville Church potlucks and Sunday family meals. She also enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, including watching classic TV game shows like The Price Is Right, which she liked to say helped keep her mind sharp. In her quiet moments she found joy in adult coloring books, Bible word searches, and her treasured afternoon naps. Those who knew Shirley will remember her steadfast devotion to God, her generous heart, her wonderful cooking, her beautiful singing voice, and the love she shared so freely with her family, friends, and church community. Her warmth, faith, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Visitation will be Friday August 7th, 2026 at 11:00 am with the funeral service at 1:00 pm at Young Chapel. Burial will follow at Franklin Cemetery on 1690 in Louisa, KY.
