Nashville, Tenn. (April 9, 2021) — As the Class of 2021 gears up to graduate, Country Music Hall of Fame member Ricky Skaggs has a major reveal: nearly 50 years after leaving high school, he’s finally received his diploma.
On June 1, 2020, his alma mater, Lawrence County High School in Louisa, Kentucky, bestowed upon him an honorary high school diploma for all of his work in music. The surprise presentation happened as Skaggs, along with fellow alumni singer-songwriters Larry Cordle, Tyler Childers and others, were participating in a virtual high school graduation ceremony for the Lawrence County High School 2020 graduating class.
Dr. Robbie Fletcher, superintendent of Lawrence County Schools in Kentucky, presented Skaggs with the honor.
Skaggs would have graduated high school in 1971, but in lieu of receiving his diploma, he chose to hit the tour trail with Dr. Ralph Stanley, a decision that paid off. However, Skaggs always yearned to graduate high school, as it was one of his mother’s greatest desires.
“It was an amazing surprise and answered prayer of my mom,” explains Skaggs. “She wanted me to graduate before I went full time with Ralph Stanley on the road. I was about as proud of that as anything I’ve been given.”
Ricky attended Louisa High School in town by the river!!!!!!! He was never in the current building until he was asked to sing there in the late 80’s!
Get your facts right. Larry Cordle didn’t go to Lawrence County High Schook either
What does it matter?
I find it amazing that you graduated? The article says not one thing about Larry Cordle attending school there,; where the LCHC or LHS was in 71 and now is is a non-issue. Give a decent man the honor he rightly deserves and let it be!
Looks like you did SCHOOL IS NOT SPELLED SCHOOK
Yes I agree with that because Ricky Skaggs set behind me n Algebra class!! I was born n the old General Hospital n 1955. I went to old building that used to be by the grade school, I was n the 7th grade then. I remember from the 1st grade till I graduated n ‘73.
Well facts do not matter in todays culture when reporting news:
Peaceful Demonstrations this summer
Trumps boarder problem
No monkey business with election
George Floyd a hero
MLK a saint
and on and on with the fake news…………….
Just SAYing U are right!!! Fake New,s is OK to report as truth by liars and thieves in the news media
