GRAVE MARKED AFTER 170 YEARS
A US millitary marker replaced a weather worn, unreadable field stone of Revolutionary War Soldier, Adam Crum, at the mouth of Silver Creek, near Crum, Wayne County, WV today, September 7th, 2021.
The location and identification of the grave was made possible through a letter written in 1972 from a creditible witness, Maude Crum Dutton, who was born in the same house where Adam Crum died in October 10, 1851. Maude was 18 years old when her grandmother, Elizabeth Pack Crum died in 1914. This was the same house, which was located on the same property that Crum Pre-k-8 is located. Elizabeth Pack Crum, was a daughter-in-law of Adam Crum. She probably cooked the last meal that both her father-in-law, Adam Crum, and her mother-in-law Barbara Horn Crum ate. They are both burried under the huge cedar trees at the mouth of Silver Creek.
More than 350 graduates of Crum High School have been identified as descendants of Adam Crum. The late Herbert Cline, Jr. as well as well as the actress, Ashley Judd are descendants of Adam and Barbara Horn Crum.
