A structure fire that erupted on a residential property Saturday evening was stopped from being a worse situation and tragedy for the owners of the property as quick response and efforts of firefighters that prevented the fire from spreading to the adjacent house as well as multiple automobiles and other vehicles nearby, with the only loss confined to one building and minor damages.
At just after 8 P.M. Saturday night, March 25, Lawrence County E-911 received a call of a reported structure fire, involving a large outbuilding on 1143 Chapel Road, which is just off the right fork of Five Forks Hill, turning off by Myrtle Chapel Church, around just over two miles outside of Louisa.
Lawrence County E-911 immediately dispatched the City of Louisa Fire Department to respond to the scene. The fire department crews responded quickly to fire area, arriving within several minutes of the initial call.
Once present at the blaze, firefighters discovered that a large outbuilding was completely consumed in flames, and that the fire was on the verge of spreading, as there was a mobile home adjacent to the burning outbuilding as well as several automobiles and other vehicles around the blazing structure, and all them were getting very hot and preparing to ignite, with fire crews having only a couple of minutes, maybe only seconds, to prevent a full-scale inferno throughout the entire property site.
Louisa fire units sprung into action, going into overdrive to get the tense situation under control and extinguish the fire and bring an end to threat to the remaining properties at in just the nick of time.
After about an hour of arriving and fighting the blaze that was ready to incinerate the scene, the Louisa Fire Department put out the flames, saving the owners the rest of their property from a more somber fate.
With everything finally under control, firefighters inspected everything on the rest of scene, and reported that the outbuilding was a complete loss, and that there was damage suffered to the fronts of two vehicles and minor damage to the eaves of the house.
There were no injuries reported as result of the fire. No cause as of yet has been reported as to what was the initial cause of the outbuilding to catch aflame.
