Suzie New, of A Ray of Hope got visits from State Rep. Scott Sharp earlier this week and last week. As you may be aware, the government shutdown has resulted in most individuals not receiving their monthly SNAP benefits, causing significant hardship for the community, nonprofit organizations, and food pantries.

Rep. Scott Sharp

Within a mere three days, A Ray Of Hope witnessed an alarming 50% increase in demand, with a overwhelming number of calls seeking help. Yesterday, Rep. Scott Sharp became aware of our challenges for Lawrence County residents. I was contacted by Scott, who graciously offered his support and resources. He announced his intention to visit and present a donation from Tri-State Charities Inc., a non-profit organization he established.

In addition to his generous donation, Scott took the time to personally deliver a $1,000.00 check to A Ray Of Hope. He also engaged with some Lawrence County residents, providing encouragement and reassurance of his willingness to offer aid whenever he can.

Thanks to the efforts of Scott and our volunteers, we were able to accomplish a substantial amount today. Our day began at Walmart, where we coordinated with senior citizens and families to purchase groceries. We then proceeded to deliver food boxes, hot meals to those in need.
