Rebels come up just short in road loss: Home opener this Friday night

Sissonville, W. Va. — Tolsia ( 0-2 ) came up just short in a 20-19 loss on the road at Sissonville ( 1-1 ) on Thursday night.

The Rebels scored late in the first half when Robert Evans connected with John Jarrell for a 7 yard touchdown and Evans booted the extra point for a 7-0 lead. 

In the third period the Indians tied it up on a Maddox Balog 32 yard touchdown pass to Noah Evans and Freddie Pasco booted the PAT to make it 7-7 with 6:30 left. 

With 3:01 left in the third quarter Dakota Blackburn connected with Elijah Ekers on a 27 yard touchdown to give the Rebels the 13-7 lead. 

Sissonville took the lead right back on a 10 yard touchdown run by Malyki Holtzman and Pasco booted the PAT to make it 14-13 Indians. 

Kyson Stone scored from 8 yards to extend the Indian lead to 20-13 with 6:29 left in the game. 

Peyton Rice returned the ensuing kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown to pull the Rebels within one point and Tolsia went for two points to take the lead but it was unsuccessful and Sissonville led 20-19. 

Tolsia got the ball back one more time but couldn’t convert a fourth down with 1:31 left in the game and the Indians snapped a 21 game losing streak. 

Evans was the leading rusher with 82 yards on 18 carries, Blackburn had 11 carries for 45 yards. 

Chase Thompson led the defense with 7 tackles including 3 sacks, Evans 6 tackles and 1 sack, Rice 5 tackles, Dylan Stroud 4 tackles, Greyson Golden 4 tackles and 3 pass breakups. 

Tolsia will host Mount View ( 0-2 )  in their home opener on Friday September 12th. 

Sissonville will host the Scott Skyhawks ( 0-2 ) on Friday September 12th.

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… Justin couldn’t overcome some mistakes late in the game. Thought we played pretty good for the most part but didn’t finish that last two point conversion to give us the lead.”

“… Will be glad to be home on Friday and play in front of our fans. They have been with us in the road for two scrimmages and two games to start the season. Hopefully we see a ton of orange and blue in the stands.”
