Preserving a Legacy: Camp Kootaga Foundation Established to Secure the Future of Beloved Scout Camp
Walker, WV – For over a century, Camp Kootaga, nestled along the Hughes River near Walker, West Virginia, has been a cherished destination where Scouts have camped, explored, and developed essential life skills. To safeguard this tradition for future generations, the Camp Kootaga Foundation, a newly formed non-profit organization in the Mid-Ohio Valley, has been established to acquire, maintain, and operate the camp for years to come.
“The Camp Kootaga Foundation is committed to ensuring that this historic camp remains a thriving, year-round haven for outdoor adventure,” said Foundation President James Bennon. “Our mission is to preserve the camp’s rich Scouting legacy, providing a place where young people can develop leadership, character, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.”
While Camp Kootaga has evolved over the years, its spirit remains unchanged. The Foundation is dedicated to keeping the authentic Scout camp tradition alive—offering meaningful outdoor experiences that shape the next generation of leaders.
