Juvenile Charged for School Threat

Louisa, KY. (Sept. 12, 2024) – This morning, the Lawrence County School officials contacted the Kentucky State Police Post 14 and requested investigative assistance with a threat to the Louisa Middle School. School administration received notification of a threat to the school. As a result of an extensive investigation, Louisa PD has charged a 12-year old male juvenile with Terroristic Threatening, 3rd degree. The case remains under investigation by Louisa Police Department Detective Hunter James. This was a joint effort by the Kentucky State Police, Louisa Police Department, and Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department.

Kentucky State Police thoroughly investigates all reported threats of school violence regardless of context or intent.  Troopers urge parents to have a conversation with their children about the dangers of posting threatening messages on social media and reporting any concerning information they may come across online.

Louisa, KY – September 12, 2024 — This morning at approximately 9:00 a.m., Louisa Middle School (LMS) staff was alerted to a written message discovered on a bathroom wall. Out of an abundance of caution, the school was immediately placed on a modified classroom.

The modified classroom allows students to remain in their classrooms with doors locked, while instruction continued under heightened alert.

Agencies responding were Louisa Police, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and Kentucky State Police once it was determined to be safe a full clearance from law enforcement, students have now returned to their normal schedule.

All students are safe, and authorities have determined through investigation, the message was written by a male juvenile student at the school.

Case is being handled by Detective Hunter James.
