DANGEROUS DRUNKEN CRIMINAL MENACE: DENNIS D. MAYNARD, 38, OF LOVELY, KENTUCKY, WAS ARRESTED IN BOYD COUNTY, KY., AFTER HE BEGAN FIRING A GUN INSIDE OF A MOVING CAR WHILE INTOXICATED, AND THEN SITTING HIS BODY IN THE MIDDLE OF TH U.S. 23 SOUTH LANE, CASING A ONCOMING DRIVER TO CRASH THEIR CAR WHILE AVOIDING TO HIT HIM.

A Martin County man is in custody after a shots fired situation in the middle of a four lane highway in Boyd County Friday night.

Dennis D. Maynard, 38, of Lovely, KY., was charged with three counts of

*Wanton Endangerment-First-Degree; and

*ALCOHOL INTOXICATION IN A PUBLIC PLACE (1ST & 2ND OFFENSE).

According to the Boyd County Sheriff Office, they stated in a press release that this incident happened just after 9:00 P.M. Friday night in the intersection area of U.S. 23 and Porter Road, when Boyd County 911 received a call about shots being fired at vehicles.

When deputies arrived, they located two people on the side of the road who were in the same vehicle as Dennis Maynard. They told the deputies that they were all driving together and that Dennis Maynard was intoxicated by drugs and alcohol and was armed with a handgun.

The victims stated that Dennis Maynard suddenly began firing his gun inside of the vehicle. The victims stopped the vehicle and took off running on foot.

Deputies said while the pair were fleeing, Dennis Maynard continued to fire his pistol.

Deputies located Dennis Maynard sitting in the middle of the southbound lanes of U.S. 23 and he was taken into custody. A 9MM handgun was also located by the deputies.

Two counts of the Wanton Endangerment were for endangering the lives of the people in the vehicle with Dennis Maynard, and the third Wanton Endangerment count was for endangering a driver who crashed their vehicle trying to avoid Dennis Maynard as he was sitting in the middle of the dark U..S. 23 highway.

All three people who were the victims are from Martin County, Kentucky.

Dennis Maynard is currently being held at the Boyd County Detention Center in Catlettsburg, KY., and is  currently being held on no bond allowed.

The arrest of Dennis D. Maynard is the latest in a long line of arrests for him. Before this latest arrest, he had been jailed at least another 31 times in the last 15+ years, all but one in the last 9+, on at least 57 various charges, nearly all in Martin County, nearly all for either alcohol and/or drug public intoxication, or other crime charges while drunk.

However, his newest arrest in Boyd County, and his last arrest on September 16, 2023, for the major felony charge of second-degree assault, are his most serious offenses.
