Louisa Rotarians held their weekly meeting on Thursday, August 31st. The meeting began with the traditional prayer, Pledge of Allegiance and 4 way test.
ROTARY President Chris Jobe took the podium and announced the total amount raised in this year’s rotary auction. The club with the help of the community raised around $8,000 to put to use in Louisa. Birthdays and Anniversaries were acknowledged, Chris Jobe, Jodi Parsley, Ginger Copley and Jason Lycans all celebrated a birthday during the previous week and Carolyn Thompson celebrated a 50th wedding anniversary.
Jobe then announced the speaker, Chris Wilson.
Mr. Wilson is a 3rd generation business owner in Louisa. His grandfather, ‘Possum’ Wilson owned a store on old US 23 a number of years ago until Chris’ father, Mike Wilson took over and started a monument business at the age of 16.
Mike started a funeral home business and Chris has now followed his lead and runs The Wilson Funeral Home. “I realize that nobody wants to talk about preplanning their funeral right after a big meal, but it’s important,” Chris said.
He spoke on the fact that death is imminent, and when you make arrangements in advance, not only does it keep your family from having the burden, it also locks in the price of your funeral. Therefore, when you put that money down on your funeral, no matter what the cost is at the time or how many years have passed, you still have the same price if it’s paid for.
Mr. Wilson also spoke about a new app that his funeral home is offering. The app is now free to the residents of Louisa, and can save your life. ‘Vital Ice’ is available on all iPhone and android smartphones. The app holds all of your medical records, your medications and your emergency contacts.
At the push of a button, this app contacts local 911 and LCEM that there is an emergency and it gives your location with the GPS on your phone. ‘Vital Ice’ is located in your play store and highly increases your odds of a good outcome to a life threatening emergency.
Rotary members thanked Mr. Wilson for his time and information, with that the meeting was adjourned for the week.
