Bringers of Light: Turning a Family’s Journey Into Hope
The Rotary Club of Louisa welcomed a very special guest at its Thursday, August 13 meeting. Rotarian Sheila Holt introduced Jessica Lucas-Adkins of Bringers of Light, who shared her family’s deeply personal journey and the mission that has grown from it.
Jessica spoke about her children, Luca and Buddy, who have both been diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a progressive inherited retinal disease that can lead to severe vision loss and blindness. Faced with a diagnosis they cannot control, Jessica and her family have chosen to turn their experience into action—raising awareness, supporting research, and doing everything they can to help bring hope to families affected by retinal diseases.
It was truly inspirational to meet Jessica and hear her story. Her beautiful, giving heart was evident throughout her presentation, as was her love for God, her family, and others. Rather than allowing fear to define their journey, the Lucas-Adkins family is using it as an opportunity to make a difference.
As part of that mission, Bringers of Light will host the Bringers of Light Charity Golf Classic on Saturday, September 19, at Diamond Links Golf Course. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Foundation Fighting Blindness and help support research into retinal diseases, including the disease affecting Luca and Buddy.
The organization is currently seeking golf teams, business and individual sponsors, hole sponsors, in-kind donations, and raffle or auction items. Community members can also make a difference simply by helping spread the word to golfers, businesses, friends, and organizations.
One unique opportunity is the Experience Hole Sponsorship, which allows local businesses and professionals to set up at a designated hole, meet golfers, distribute promotional materials, offer contests or giveaways, and introduce their businesses to participants. Larger sponsorship opportunities are also available, including options that provide golf teams and additional event recognition.
Jessica’s presentation was a wonderful reminder of what can happen when love, faith, and determination are turned into action. The Rotary Club of Louisa was honored to learn more about Bringers of Light and the Lucas-Adkins family’s efforts to help advance research and bring hope to others facing vision loss.
