Lexington, Ky. — Two Lawrence Co. baseball players landed on the HERALD LEADER All State baseball team as Bryce Blevins made first team and Luke Patton made third team.
Both Patton and Blevins along with Blue Fletcher and Senior to be Will Lafferty landed on the All 15th region team as well.
Blevins, who will attend Marshall University this fall, missed the postseason because of an injury. He still made first team all state for the second consecutive season and has only lost one game on the mound in two years and four his entire career. He went 8-1 this year with a 0.97 ERA, 50 and 2/3 innings, 98 strikeouts, 6 walks and 2 no-hitters. At the plate he hit .368 with 8 doubles, 3 homers and drove in 38 runs. Blevins has pitched varsity baseball since the 7th grade and will be missed in the Bulldog program.
Patton, who has signed with Army, was outstanding at the plate and on the mound after transferring in from Boyd Co. for his senior year. He got off to a shaky start but responded big time by going 6-2 on the mound in 53 innings of work with a 1.72 ERA, 80 strikeouts and 24 walks. Patton really excelled at the plate with a .462 batting average, 7 home runs, 5 doubles, 1 triple and 31 RBI’s. Even though he was a Bulldog for just his senior season he left a big impression.
Blue Fletcher will be playing at Transylvania in Lexington, Ky. next spring. He had a great year at the dish, behind the plate and on the mound for the Dawgs. He hit .354 with 8 doubles, 2 homers and drove in 30 runs. On the mound he went 6-1 with a 2.15 ERA, 30 strikeouts and walked 11 in 26 innings of work. Blue will be missed dearly next season in Louisa.
Lafferty will be back for one more season in Louisa and will be counted on heavily to lead the Bulldogs in 2023. He hit .409 with 7 doubles, 2 triples, 3 home runs and drove in 30 runs. On the mound he went 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA in 18 and 1/3 innings, struck out 26 and walked 15 batters. He also manned the shortstop position all year as well.
