New Look for Lawrence Co. Courthouse
Why cut the trees?
Lawrence County Deputy Judge/Executive VINCE DOTY gave this answer:
“…The trees at the courthouse were maple trees. There were 17 of them planted. Maple trees are the wrong kind of tree to plant along sidewalks. The roots of the trees were already starting to get under the memorial bricks along side the concrete sidewalk and it would only take a couple of more years before they would end up destroying the sidewalk resulting in tens of thousands of dollars replacing the concrete as well as still having to remove the trees. We plan on grinding the stumps and reseeding the lawn. After that we will landscape the courtyard including planting a few trees that will be more suited for the area.”
