Lawrence County Steps Out Of District Play To Host Mason County Tonight

Louisa, Ky. — At the halfway point of the regular season the LCHS Bulldogs are 4-1 and will welcome the Mason Co. Royals to Luke Varney Jr. Memorial Stadium Friday night. 

Coming off a big 57-47 District victory over Letcher Co. Central the Dawgs will step out of District play and host Class 4A Mason County who is 2-3 on the season. 

Last Friday against Letcher Co. Central the Dawgs put up 587 yards of total offense with most of it coming on the ground with three players going over 100 yards each. 

Cavin Williams was the leading rusher with 156 yards on 18 carries and 2 touchdowns, Kaden Johnson 128 yards on 8 carries and 2 touchdowns, Luke Fetherolf 116 yards on 12 carries and 1 score, Carlo Chicko rushed 8 times for 38 yards and a score, Chandler Preece 16 yards on 6 attempts Gray Derifield 12 yards on 2 attempts. 

Fetherolf was 7 of 10 passing for 121 yards and 2 touchdowns

Derifield caught 2 passes for 68 yards and 2 touchdowns, Johnson 3 receptions for 20 yards, Andrew Ratcliff 1 for 18 yards and Braxton Davis 1 for 7 yards. 

Kicker Brayden Queen was a perfect 7-7 on point after attempts. 

Preece was the leading tackler with 11 and one QB sack, Cameron Castle 10 tackles, Chicko 9 tackles, Davis 8 tackles, Aiden Patton 7 tackles, Williams and Johnson 6 each and Ty Brooks had a QB sack.

For the Royals, coming off a 21-13 win over Class 5A Boone County, they will start a new QB this week after Cameron Gregory was injured. 

Joey Staggs is the leading rusher with 4 touchdowns and 382 yards, Leonard Avery has 210 yards. 

Micah Payne is the leading receiver with 13 receptions, 281 yards and 4 touchdowns. Macen Grooms has 6 catches, 110 yards and a touchdown. Carter Roark has 10 catches, 81 yards and 3 touchdowns. 

The Bulldogs have won the past two meetings against the Royals including a 49-20 victory in Maysville last season.
