NUMBER OF ARRESTS IN LAWRENCE COUNTY AND THE SURROUNDING REGION GOES DOWN SHARPLY OVER THE PAST WEEK; DOWN BY NEARLY HALF, AS REGIONAL JAIL CENTER ONCE AGAIN GETS HEAVILY OVERCROWDED.
THERE WAS AT ONE POINT 273 INMATES OVER THE WEEKEND AT THE BSRDC, WHICH IS DESIGNED TO HAVE A MAXIMUM CAPACITY OF 225 INMATES. IT WENT DOWN TO 255 INMATES DURING MONDAY JUNE 26. AT 7 A.M. TUESDAY MORNING, JUNE 27, THERE WERE 260 INMATES BOOKED THERE AT THE BSRDC. THIS MAY BE WHY THE NUMBERS OF ARRESTS IN THE BIG SANDY AREA WENT DOWN THRU THE WEEKEND.
OUT OF THE AT LEAST 68 INMATES BOOKED AT THE BIG SANDY REGIONAL DETENTION CENTER IN PAINTSVILLE IN THE SIX DAYS FROM 12:01 A.M. JUNE 21 THRU 11:59 P.M. JUNE 26, 10 OF THEM WERE FROM LAWRENCE COUNTY, WITH 6 MORE IN NEARBY COUNTIES (2 IN JOHNSON COUNTY, 2 IN BOYD COUNTY, 1 IN MARTIN COUNTY, AND ONE IN PERRY COUNTY).
