The Gift of Education

During the holiday season, we often think about the many gifts we give and receive. Some gifts bring joy for a little while, but others last a lifetime.

My dad had a profound impact on my life, and this is the third Christmas without him. I still miss him every day and often think of the things he taught me. Dad had been a high school dropout. After being drafted and serving in the Korean War he came home and got his high school diploma and went on to graduate from the old Mayo Vocational School. He always stressed to me that one of the greatest gifts anyone can receive is the gift of a good education and through our efforts we help to give that gift to ourselves, and it also helps those we love.

Education helps us learn important skills, solve problems, and make good decisions. It gives us the tools we need to reach our goals and dreams. Education opens doors to new opportunities. It can change lives. For our students in Lawrence County, education is the foundation for a brighter future.

The gift of education doesn’t just help one person—it helps us all. When students succeed, their family, and community grows stronger. Education creates more opportunities for everyone.

As superintendent, I am thankful for all the people in our schools and community who make education a priority. Together, we are building a stronger future for all of our students.

From all of us at Lawrence County Schools, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year filled with hope and learning. Thank you for helping us give the gift that lasts a lifetime.
