Pikeville, Ky. — Johnson Central (18-12) shot 61% and made 9 three pointers on their way to a 82-49 victory over Lawrence Co. (20-9) Monday in the first round of the 15th Region tournament at the East Ky Expo center IN Pikeville.
Lawrence Co. Senior Hannah Rucker hit a three pointer to start the scoring before Johnson Central went on a 7-0 run and closed out the first quarter with a 13-7 lead.
In the second quarter the scoring picked up with the Golden Eagles taking a 32-23 lead as senior Kendra Spaulding made an acrobatic shot to close the half.
Johnson Central broke the game open in the third period with a 25 point quarter as the Lady Dawgs were in scramble mode.
Lady Bulldog junior Kelly Davis tallied a double double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, Sophomore Lexi Ratliff 9 points, Sophomore Kassidy Cavins 8 points, Senior Kendra Spaulding 7 points and 4 assists, 7th Grader Kensley Feltner 6 points, Senior Hannah Rucker 3 points, Freshman Ellie Webb 2 points.
LCHS was 1-12 from deep and 12-18 from the charity stripe.

With 20 wins Lawrence Co. had the most wins since 2012-2013. That team was 23-8 but didn’t make it to the regional tournament. LC has been to the Region tourney 4 out of the last 5 seasons.
Johnson Central will face Shelby Valley in the Semifinals Friday night at 6:30.

“… Proud of our kids for the great season we’ve had but we have to get back to work and get better.
“…We’re gonna miss Hannah and Kendra on and off the court. They have been amazing players in our program. We have some young kids coming up that will really help us in the upcoming season so we just have to go back to work in the off season to get ready next year.”
