John Lee Burton Jr. 79 of Louisa, Kentucky passed away September 27, 2025, at Kings Daughters Medical Center following a brief illness.

 

John was born July 22, 1946, at Paintsville, Kentucky the son of the late John Lee and Guinola Hill Burton. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Joe Burton, his sister-in-law Wanda Blevins, and his brother-in-law Jim Shannon.

 

John retired as President and CEO of the Peoples Security Bank after 47 years of service. Prior to banking, he was employed as a teacher by the Lawrence County School System for three years. He was a member of the GTO Association (owned a 66, 67, and 69) ,Appersons Lodge #195, Royal Arch Mason, El Hasa Shrine, Scottish Rite, and Louisa Rotary Club which he joined in 1973 and served as past president. He served on the Board of Lawrence County Extension Service, Lawrence County Soil Conservation, Three Rivers Medical Center, Louisa Community Hospital, Lawrence County Economic Development and a 50-year member of the Lawrence County Farm Bureau Board. He was a longtime member of the Tennessee Walking Horse Association and owned numerous horses throughout his life. He would spend hours brushing, feeding, and riding his many horses. He enjoyed many years of trail riding with his friends and family. He also loved German Shepherds and owned eight to ten during his lifetime. When the local golf course opened, he and his wife became members and often played the course.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Joyce Rice Burton; brothers-in-law Herbert Rice, Joe Rice (Kay), and Stuart Blevins (Shana); sisters-in-law Linda Ferguson, and Marsha Shannon; a first cousin Harry Burton (Judy); nieces and nephews Mikie Kean, Cathy (Steve) Hicks, David (Meredith) Rice, Kyle (Kendra) Rice, David (Loni)Blevins, Elizabeth Blevins, and Thad (Rachel) Blevins, special great nieces and nephews Sam, Sarah, and Molly Hicks; William, Conrad, and Bode Blevins, and Elisha Blevins-Rodgers. Additional great nieces and nephews are Anavay Baldner(Hugo), Aubrey, Adalynn, and Landon Rice.

 

Funeral Services will be held on Friday October 3rd at 1:30 pm at the Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Ric Frazier and Rev. Roger Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery Louisa, Kentucky.

 

Friends may visit the family on Thursday Oct. 2nd from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Wilson Funeral Home.

 

A Masonic Service will be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday Oct.2nd by members of the Apperson Masonic Lodge 195.

 

Care for John and his family has been entrusted to our family at Wilson Funeral Home.
