Recipients of the Paul Harris Fellow Awards
The Louisa Rotary club held its regular meeting on Thursday, July 13. The meeting began with prayer, The Pledge of Allegiance and the four-way test.
This week was packed with information as the new president, Chris Jobe took the reins of a brand-new year. The theme for this year will be ‘Making A Difference’, Jobe said, “ because that’s exactly what we do.”
Local businessman Steve Lycans was named President-elect and will thus become President next year.
Jobe is taking over from past president Lindsey Case.
The birthday of Sherri Compton was recognized and the club sang happy birthday to her to kick off the meeting. Donnie Parsons was present and spoke about the County Fair.
A new member was welcomed to the club, Dr. Akshay Goel. Dr. Goel is a well known orthopedic surgeon with TRMC. As he received his membership plaque, he explained that his father is also a Rotarian in India.
The speaker this week was Lynn Perry and her client and friend, Louise Allen. Lynn was representing and works for a program called “A Brighter Future.”
The program helps to provide a safe haven for special needs people, as well as teaching them skills to live independently, it gives them an opportunity to get out into the community and do things they might not ordinarily do, giving them self-confidence and teaching them more than life skills, as it teaches social skills as well.
Watching Lynn with Louise was more than watching someone interact with a client, but it was seeing a loving bond forged through a program. They showed art work that Louise had worked on during their time together and along with The Painted Cow Gallery in Louisa. Louise hopes to sell these pieces to fulfill her wish to go to Camden Park.
After the speaker, Jobe gave out 6 new Paul Harris Fellow awards. These are Individuals who have contributed more than $1,000 to the Annual Program Fund. Additionally, individual rotary clubs honor those people who have went above and beyond their duties as Rotarians.
Among those who received this prestigious award were Jodi Parsley, Steven Montgomery, Greg Kiser, Lindsey Case, Mary McGuire and Beverly Scarberry. After the presentation of awards, Past President Lindsey Case said a few words about her year as president, Chris Jobe awarded her with a Past President plaque and other awards.
Jobe spoke about events coming up and seems ready and organized for the new year.
