George Winton Hardin, Sr. passed away peacefully at home on May 22, 2024 after an extended illness.
George was born to Solomon Jack and Sallie Kate Hardin on December 11, 1936 in Lawrence County, KY, being one of their thirteen children. He was a graduate of Louisa High School.
George was passionate about sharing his love of his Lord and Savior, telling others of the grace and mercy that had been extended to him. He never missed an opportunity to tell others about his salvation story, giving his life to Christ as a young husband and father on March 15, 1964 at General Baptist Church in Fairborn, Ohio. As a Christ-follower, he was a member of the Louisa Free Will Baptist Church, where he served many years as the Junior Boys Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent and Deacon. Although his passing marks the end of his physical life on earth, our Lord has lovingly ushered him into a beautiful eternity, having been healed and made new.
A devoted husband and father, George worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He was a longtime employee of Special Metals in Burnaugh, KY, retiring in 1998 as a truck driver. He loved his work, as it allowed him to use his passion and knowledge of truck mechanics. George’s favorite hobby was farming. On a hot July day, he would choose to be working on his farm, mending fences, laboring in his hay fields, and tending to his cattle. He loved attending cattle auctions and was happiest on his farm.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his brothers Jack Jr., Phillip, Clint, Mack, Lawrence, Bill Hardin and his sisters, Irene Hardin, Gail Martin and Lucille Sullivan.
George is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Linda Wilson Hardin, his four children, Winton (Bain) Hardin, Jayne (Greg) Estepp, Sharon Parsons and LeAnna (Roger) Hensley. In addition to his wife and children, George is survived by his six grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Lyndi (Kyle) Tarr, Katelynn (Blake) DeBacher, Ethan (Abby) Parsons, Ashley Hardin, Caroline Hensley, Collin Hensley and his four great-grandchildren, Ava Parsons, Bryce DeBacher, Isabel Parsons and Cameron DeBacher, along with his surviving siblings, Ernestine Morford, Janice Webb and Francis Hardin.
George’s family would like to thank his caregivers Ellie Beck, Faye Kazee, Sarah Johnson and his selfless hospice nurses, Amy and Nicole. The compassion, support and love they showed George in his final months will never be forgotten.
Family and friends are invited to join in George’s celebration of life on Sunday, May 26, 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Louisa Free Will Baptist Church, followed by the graveside service at Yatesville Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Saturday, May 25, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Louisa Free Will Baptist Church.
