The Fort Gay High School Alumni Association wrapped up their end of the year meeting with the results of the “FGHS Memorial Scholarship Fund” along with the newly implemented “Vocational Scholarship.” The FGHSAA also held end of the year Election For 2019 Board Of Directors.
The “FGHS Memorial Scholarship Fund” along with Marshall University Foundations is designed to provide scholarships after FGHSAA members are gone. The group raises money each year to provide four scholarships which cost $12,000 annually. Each scholarship recipient can receive a $3,000 scholarship each year for four years.
In this way, The FGHSSA sends a freshman, a sophomore, a junior, and a senior at Marshall University at all times. Since 1998, FGHSAA has expended $170,000 to provide these scholarships while at the same time raising funds for the FGHS “Memorial Scholarship Fund” which now totals over $400,000.
Marshall University picks a student from Tolsia High School to attend a 4 year paid tuition program annually. The scholarship recipients are selected by Marshall University based on their academic achievements and financial need. This program was started in 1988 with the purpose of the fund to be able to provide scholarships in the future after FGHSAA ceases to exist or no longer has alumni to carry on the association’s mission.
The Board will also be implementing the new “Vocational Scholarship” fund in 2019 for students at Tolsia High School.
The current Fundraiser is the “Tapestry Fund”, the goal is to sell 100 raffle tickets at $100.00 each you may purchase one by contacting The FGHSAA.
