LOUISA, KY. — With calls and messages coming in to Lawrence Co. Schools Supt. from all over the state, Dr. Rob Fletcher made time to send a message to Lawrence County concerning his being nominated as the new Commissioner of Education in Kentucky.
The ten year LC veteran Superintendent here, has been both loved and not so much through two attempts to pass a local tax in Lawrence County as well as attempting to send 8th graders from Blaine and Fallsburg to LC Middle School. But he and the board have constructed a beautiful $1 middle softball and other girls sports facility, and paid another $1 million to add a turf cover for the Luke Varney Stadium field in recent years.
He has served on several Dept. of Education boards and committees and pushed for excellence in the classroom. He has also hired a public relations officer and is a frequent Twitter (X) contributor getting the word out about the schools’ activities.
Fletcher has been active in school events especially sports where all three of his children participated. Fletcher, 50, has also upgraded the LCHS school and is currently completing a $10 million vocational center for current and future industry.
Here’s what he says to The Lazer and the people of Lawrence County:
“…As stated in the KDE press release, I have been nominated as the next Commissioner of Education for our Commonwealth. If confirmed by the Senate, my first day in the new role will be July 1, 2024. It will be an honor to serve the 600,000 + KY students, and all those involved in their education.
As a special message to the current and past students of Lawrence County Schools: There has been no greater feeling in my professional career than being able to yell “ALL IN” and hear you explode with “LC!” Thank you for this and for everything else you do each day to make Lawrence County a special place.
To ALL students that I have served at Williamstown, Bourbon County, Martin County, and Lawrence County: Thank you for making each day of my career a joy and for preparing me for this new role. Each of you have taught me more than any class could possibly cover.
Next, thank you to my wife, Missy, and to my kids, Eli, Jacob, and Abigail (including my son-in-law, David). I continue to be blessed by this group each and every day. (For the record: Missy continues to be the most amazing person I know.) I also appreciate ALL of my family, which is a HUGE group, for their love and support.”
